Implants are artificial dental roots, which usually contain titanium, put on the jawbone to replace teeth in the presence of missing teeth.
Contrary to popular belief, implant surgery is a very simple and painless operation. First of all, a detailed oral and radiological examination of the patient is made. The bone quantity, quality, and relationship with the surrounding tissues of the area to be implanted are determined. In a sterile surgical environment, the relevant area is anesthetized with local anesthesia. A slot is prepared in the bone and the implant is placed. The healing process is expected.
The healing period after the placement of the implants varies between 4 weeks and 3 months. If the bone structure is suitable, temporary prostheses can be made 1 day after the implantation during this period until the permanent prostheses are prepared, so that you will not remain toothless.
This period may vary according to the number of implants and the existing jawbone structure of the patient. To give an example for a single implant, it can take half an hour.
⎯ Swelling is normal after implant surgery.
⎯ Applying ice to the area of implants outside the mouth is recommended as it will reduce pain and swelling. (3-5 minutes of ice application to the area at 10-minute intervals)
⎯ Medicines recommended by your doctor must be taken regularly.
⎯ Until the stitches are removed in the relevant area, pressure should not be applied to the stitched area, hard foods should not be consumed and the area should be kept highly clean.
⎯ Care should be taken not to smoke after the implants are placed. It should not be forgotten that smoking affects the healing process negatively.
⎯ Consumption of very cold or very hot foods should be avoided.
– In the absence of a single tooth or several teeth, it eliminates the missing teeth without the need to reduce the teeth in front and behind the gap.
– It prevents bone loss in the edentulous area after tooth extraction.
– It provides the opportunity to switch to a fixed prosthesis in patients using a removable prosthesis. Thereby, the patient can maintain a more comfortable life.
– Patients regain their aesthetic, chewing, and speaking functions that they lost due to edentation.
Implant treatment can be applied to any patient who has bone at sufficient quality, thickness, and height and whose systemic health condition is suitable for surgical procedure.
This is out of the question. Titanium implants are biocompatible and do not show allergic reactions in the body. In unsuccessful implant treatments, many factors such as bone quality, surgical procedure, patient’s systemic condition, and oral hygiene are effective rather than the body’s rejection.
